South Korea's 21st presidential election begins formal voting

Xinhua News Agency, Seoul, June 3 (Reporter Huang Xinxin and Lu Rui) Official voting for the 21st South Korea presidential election began at 6 a.m. local time on the 3rd.

The opening hours of the polling station are from 6:00 to 20:00 local time, and counting of votes will begin immediately after the voting is over. There are 14,295 polling stations nationwide, with about 44.39 million voters.

A total of 7 candidates have registered for election in this presidential election, of which 2 have announced their withdrawal, and 5 candidates have finally participated in the competition. Among them, co-Democratic candidate Lee Jae-ming, Kuomintang candidate Kim Moon-soo, and reform new party candidate Lee Jun-seok are popular candidates with high voices.

In order to encourage voters who may not be able to vote for some reason on the voting day, the current presidential election was held from May 29 to 30, with more than 15 million voters participating, with a turnout rate of 34.74%. Overseas Korean citizens also voted from May 20 to 25.

South Korean public opinion predicts that the preliminary results of this presidential election may be announced around midnight on the 3rd. The South Korean Central Election Management Committee expects that the general election will end at around 6 a.m. local time on the 4th.

On April 4, the South Korean Constitutional Court passed a ruling to impeach President Yoon Seo-yeol, and Yoon Seo-yeol was removed from office as president. According to the law, South Korea must hold a new presidential election within 60 days.
