Sora Ventures plans to launch a new $1 billion fund to support Asian Bitcoin funding companies
According to Foresight News, Taiwan's crypto venture capital firm Sora Ventures plans to raise up to $1 billion in new funds to support Bitcoin-funded companies in Asia, according to The Block. The venture capital firm said it has received $200 million in initial commitments from partners and investors in Asia, with the goal of raising $1 billion in the next six months.
Previously, Sora invested in Japan’s Metaplanet in April 2024 and supported Metaplanet to spend 1 billion yen ($6.6 million) on Bitcoin. Earlier this year, Sora Ventures acquired Hong Kong’s Moon Inc., which has turned to Bitcoin and Web3-related investments after changing its name from Hong Kong Asia Holdings. In July this year, a consortium led by Sora acquired Thai electronics retailer DV8 through a offer to replicate the Metaplanet model to Southeast Asia. That same month, Sora and its partners also acquired a controlling stake in South Korea's BitPlanet to support the company's expansion into the digital asset space.
