Bloomberg: U.S. government begins publishing GDP data on blockchain
According to Foresight News, the U.S. government began releasing GDP data on public blockchains on Thursday. The U.S. government's move will initially cover nine blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, with plans to place the so-called cryptographic hash of these data on these blockchains.
Commerce Department officials said the Trump administration intends to seek to expand the program's coverage in the future. Commerce officials said the blockchain plan had nothing to do with the dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Director. Officials say Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is behind the push to release data on the blockchain. Earlier this year, Lutnick also said he plans to change the way GDP is reported to eliminate the impact of government spending. GDP data is released by the Economic Analysis Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce.
