Are the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine deadlocked? Trump urges Russia to stop attacks, Rubio warns the United States may

Following the threat to impose harsher sanctions on Russia, U.S. President Trump once again urged Russia to stop its attacks on Ukraine on Sunday. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio warned that the United States might abandon its peace efforts if no progress is seen.
Trump told reporters in New Jersey that he was disappointed with Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine and said that his one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the Vatican on Saturday had gone smoothly.
"I think he was calmer. I think he understands the situation, and I think he wants to reach an agreement," Trump said of Zelensky.
At the same time, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio once again warned that if there is no progress between Russia and Ukraine, the Trump administration might abandon its efforts to mediate and reach an agreement.
"This needs to be achieved as soon as possible. If there are no results, we can't continue to invest our time and resources," Rubio said in a recent interview.
On Saturday, Trump and Zelensky attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome. The two met at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, attempting to revitalize the efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since their face-off in the Oval Office of the White House in February this year, and it came at a crucial moment in the negotiations to end the war.
After the meeting, Trump condemned Russian President Putin. He said on social media that Russia had "no reason" to fire missiles at civilian areas. The day before, Trump also questioned whether Putin truly wanted to "end the war in Ukraine" and issued threats to Russia, including the possibility of imposing harsher sanctions.
"Over the past few days, Putin has been firing missiles at civilian areas, cities, and towns for no reason. This makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to end the war. He's just敷衍 me, and we have to deal with it in different ways. 'Banking measures' or'secondary sanctions'? Too many people are dying!!!" he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said in a pre-recorded program on Sunday that Russia would continue to target the locations used by the Ukrainian military. When asked about Russia's attacks on Kyiv that caused civilian deaths last week, Lavrov said, "The targets of the attacks are not entirely civilian." Russia only targets "locations used by the military."
Zelensky, on the other hand, said that his top military commander reported that Russia had launched nearly 70 attacks on Sunday. He said, "The situation on the front line and the actual activities of the Russian military prove that the current pressure on Russia from the world is not enough to end this war."
Rubio emphasized that the "only solution" to the Russia-Ukraine war is for both Russia and Ukraine to "give up something" and have proper negotiations.
He said, "There is no military solution to this war. The only solution to this war is to reach a settlement through negotiations. Both sides must give up what they claim they want and offer the other side what they are reluctant to receive."
"This is how to end the war, and this is also what we are trying to achieve here so that no more people will die," he added.
