Citibank plans to launch cryptocurrency custody service in 2026
PANews reported on October 14 that according to CNBC, Biswarup Chatterjee, global head of partnerships and innovation for Citibank's services business, revealed that as Wall Street giants increase their presence in the digital currency field, the bank plans to launch encrypted asset custody services in 2026. Development has made progress in the past two or three years, and it hopes to launch reliable and trustworthy custody solutions for customers such as asset managers in the next few quarters. An upcoming custodian service will see Citibank hold native cryptocurrencies. Currently, the bank is considering independently developing custody technology and also seeking cooperation with third parties. Chatterjee also pointed out that stablecoins may be attractive in areas with less developed banking and payment systems. As Citibank's customers expand to these countries and interact with local suppliers and customers, similar stablecoin products may be feasible. However, the bank is still in the early stages of stablecoin exploration.
