Vitalik: The next stage goal of L2 should be to achieve rapid cash withdrawal through the ZK system
According to Foresight News, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article saying that it is encouraging that most mainstream L2s have reached the first-stage security standards at present, and the next core goal should be to achieve rapid withdrawal (less than 1 hour) through a zero-knowledge proof (ZK) system. This goal is even more important than the second phase of upgrade. The shortening of the native withdrawal time to 1 hour in the short term and to 12 seconds in the medium term will help consolidate the position of Ethereum main network as an asset issuance platform and an economic center of the ecosystem. For this purpose, the OP proof system needs to be abandoned because its withdrawals usually require several days to wait.
Previously, Vitalik proposed a 2-of-3 ZK + OP + TEE (Trustable Execution Environment) hybrid proof system strategy, aiming to balance security, speed and feasibility. Other combinations such as ZK + ZK + OP or ZK + ZK + Safety Committee are also feasible solutions, and the key is to achieve the core goal of "fast and safe". Once the above system is mature, the only bottleneck in withdrawal speed will be the Gas cost required for on-chain proof submissions, which can be solved in the future through aggregation.
